Do you love to knit or crochet? Do your kids? This is a fun thing to do with your kids. It will also teach them a bit about helping the community and helping others. The Barry and Florence Friedberg Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Oceanside has so many great classes and activities for local people of all ages. This particular activity can be done by both young and old.
Besides creating an 8x8 square, they will also accept donations of blankets and yarn!
The yarn used for this activity should be machine washable worsted yarn only. Use only primary colors (red, yellow or blue). And don't use any fringe. This way most pieces will be compatible. Blanket patterns are available in the front office.
Donations are accepted in a bin in the JCC Friedberg lobby in Oceanside. Donations are accepted February 26 through April 28, 2021.
April 30th will be a Mitzvah day at 1:30 pm at Friedberg JCC in Oceanside. The founder of "We Care Blankets" will be there.
We Care Blankets ™ started in 1999 by a few people who realized the time of treatment for children undergoing chemotherapy was difficult and challenging for them and their families.
During treatment, many children are cold. The founders of We Care Blankets ™ knew that a hand made, colorful blanket would be a wonderful gift to give to each child. That´s how the organization began.
On this Mitzvah day, a blanket will be stitched together from the squares donated. Also the already donated blankets will be showcased.
