What does A.N.C.H.O.R. stand for?
Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation
Camp ANCHOR is year round and run by the Town of Hempstead . It is for all children and adults with special needs who reside in the Town of Hempstead. They have after school programs and n Saturdays too in various locations throughout the seasons.
In the summer they have a comprehensive 6-week camp in Lido Beach.
They serve 1200 children and adults year round. You can be 5 years and older to apply.
Due to Covid things may gave changed. Always call first.
ANCHOR Summer Camp
The summer program usually serves 720 people from Mon-Fri for 6 weeks. There is swimming, field trips and special events. Transportation is provided. Registration fee is required,
For a request form call the ANCHOR office 516-431-6946. But there is a waiting list at this time. And you must be a resident of the TOH.
ANCHOR Weekday Programs
ANCHOR's weekday programs are designed to develop socialization skills, improve self-image and integrate the participant into community life whenever possible. Diverse recreational programs such as bowling, swimming, fitness, sports, ANCHOR Teen Drama Workshop and Club ANCHOR for Teens and Adults, are offered on weekdays after school and in the evenings. Open to registered participants of the ANCHOR Program only!

ANCHOR Weekend Programs
Professional educators, specialists, paraprofessionals, and volunteers will supervise exciting activities such as art, music, dance, physical education, home economics, special events and field trips during an all-day Saturday program. Participants are grouped according to age, needs, and ability. Bus transportation to and from various points in the community is provided. Open to registered participants of the ANCHOR Program only!

ANCHOR Swim Program for Children and Adults
ANCHOR's recreational swim program is staffed by specially trained lifeguards, educators and volunteers, all experienced in working with special populations. Assistance in and out of the water and individualized instruction with specific exercises are provided upon request. Open to registered participants of the ANCHOR Program only!

ANCHOR Volunteers
We are not recruiting new volunteers for the summer 2021 camp season. ONLY those individuals who have previously volunteered at Camp ANCHOR and individuals who were (prior to the pandemic) accepted for the summer of 2020 are eligible to volunteer for summer 2021. Please check back at campanchor.org for future availability.
