COVID VACCINE - Who, How, Where and When to Get it

IMPORTANT INFO: 

1. As of 4/1/21, NYS will no longer require quarantine for those traveling domestically. Quarantine is still required for those returning from international travel, regardless of immunization status. 
2. As of March 31st the Vaxmobile in South Nassau!
3. As of March 29th: The state and Newsday below announced the following today:
   Breaking: All New Yorkers age 30 and older will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine starting March 30, and all residents 16 and older will be eligible starting April 6, the state just announced. https://nwsdy.li/3fqnMDU | https://7ny.tv/3rAcNdo
4. As of March 9th: New York is expanding the vaccine eligibility list to people age 60 or older starting tomorrow morning, Gov. Cuomo announced today. He also said starting March 17, most vaccination sites will be able to vaccinate anyone on the eligibility list, except for pharmacies, which will remain focused on vaccinating those over 60 and teachers.

6. As of Jan 26, there is still a shortage which might continue for a few weeks. Supply is very limited right now.
7. As of Jan 29, we hear Johnson's 1 dose vaccine may be coming soon (although not as effective as the 2 others and especially not on the Covid variations now being found. Also CVS may soon have vaccines as per the NY Post! The first one on Long Island is in Center Moriches CVS. But it is not in the others yet.
8. As of Jan 30, some folks are driving upstate for a vaccine. See this Newsday article HERE.

10. As of Feb 3, see article in Newsday about the latest on Covid testing HERE. If you live in Nassau and want to find a place outside of Nassau for a vaccine, make sure they allow it.

Check back often and early in the day as new appointments are added randomly. Vaccines are available at some pharmacies, hospitals and through local health departments statewide. You must be eligible, fill out a form, make an appointment and show proof in person.

There is a network of State-run sites distributing vaccine statewide – to determine eligibility and to schedule an appointment through April 16 at New York State-run vaccination sites only, use the Am I Eligible app. AN APPOINTMENT IS REQUIRED. IF YOU VISIT A LOCATION WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A VACCINE.  What You Need to Know from NY STATE: CHECK HERE 

You can also or call the New York State Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4VAX (1-833-697-4829) to determine eligibility and schedule an appointment, if available.  Appointments to receive the second dose at these sites are scheduled in-person after receiving the first dose. New Yorkers should not attempt to book their second appointment online.

To get the vaccine:

After filling out the 'Am I Eligible' application above. They will email you that you filled it out (which you must show when going for your vaccination.) You must then click on the NYC and/or NASSAU links below to get an appointment. You can get it anywhere but many people are having a hard time getting one as there are so few appointments. They drop a bunch usually in the morning. But check in often during the day I am told. It will be time-consuming. You will want to help if you have a senior who needs an appointment.

• The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene clinic,  34-33 Junction Boulevard in Corona, Queens has began administering its first doses of the vaccine to those with appointments. The site is Queens' first 24/7 hub. Though it is much smaller than the vaccine centers in Brooklyn and the Bronx. All 5 boroughs now have 24/7 centers open.

• Beginning the week of January 25th, another 24/7 mega site will open in Queens at Citi Field. That location will have the ability to vaccinate up to 7,000 people a day.
