Saturday, May 19 - 7th Annual Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy 5K Run/Walk in Oyster Bay

With each determined step, the runners in the 7th Annual Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy 5K Run/ Walk will raise money to support literacy for at-risk children. For the past seven years, hundreds of runners have raised money for the Brooke Jackman Foundation, the non-profit organization created to promote literacy for underserved children in the greater New York area. There will be a Health & Fitness Fair, crafts and games for children amd the ¼ Mile Fun Run will begin at 9:45 am, with the Race for Literacy 5K beginning at 10:15 am.

“What should I do with this kid?!” It’s the question that every exasperated parent has asked at least once. Positive discipline approaches will take center stage with Andrew Vaughan, Ph.D. who will offer effective techniques to help caregivers and parents combat everyday discipline problems. Participants in the interactive workshop will learn a variety of techniques to use on a daily basis and tips for how to avoid frustrating moments. Parents will gain a better understanding of their children’s behavior and discuss how to develop a discipline method appropriate for their family.
