Recycled Spring Garden Craft

Earth Day is April 22nd

Earth Day is April 22, so I thought it would be the perfect time to share a recycled craft.

I love art and really enjoy doing crafts with my daughter, so no matter how "green" I would like to be, one thing that won't change is my love of creativity and art. With that love comes a lot of paper.

My daughter shares this love and uses lots and LOTS of paper during a day. She draws and paints and creates beautiful pictures, and I would never want to stifle this creativity by limiting the amount of paper that she uses. I do try and use different things around the house, having her draw on junk mail, making sure she uses both sides of the paper, and using things that would be thrown away ... like paper towel rolls and cardboard.

We made this Spring garden using old cereal boxes that were in our recycling bin. The great thing about this project is that it can be tailored to different ages. You can have older kids trace and cut out flowers, butterflies, and any other Spring items they choose. Or you can have all the pieces cut for younger kids and have them make a collage.

For this garden, I cut out the flowers. My daughter traced the flowers, and she glued them to the cardboard.
