Lunch/Snack Cooler for School

PackIt

August 17, 2011

True Story.  My daughter, Emma, is now watching TV with commercials and she walks into my room BEGGING me for something called a "PackIt".  I have no idea what she's talking about.  My daughter has a photographic memory but auditory (not sure if there's a word for it) - she hears something once and she memorizes it.  So when I asked her what's a "PackIt" she repeated the entire commercial back to me.  If you've never seen this before, it really is quite entertaining to watch a 6 year old do that, but I was intrigued because it sounded great.  We have other reusable lunch boxes/snack coolers but this one, Emma told me, kept your food cold up to 10 hours.

I know we all have lunch coolers in our house but this one is COMPLETELY different.  It is a freezable personal cooler that keeps your contents colder for longer - like Emma said, "Up to 10 hours".  In the past, I've sent Emma to school with the regular kind of lunch cooler and I'm stuck using those gel cold packs that never work.  They defrost immediately.  I have no idea what that stuff is made of so I'm scared it will leak toxic crap and I know there's a good chance her food will spoil anyway.  So I gave up on sending anything to school/camp that must stayed cold, which as moms/dads know limits your snack/lunch BIG TIME.  The beauty of PackIt is that you simply store it in your freezer until you’re ready to pack it and go.  No gross gel packs or ice cubes (yeah...like that even works).

PackIt sent me one to review and I sent Emma, who was screaming from excitement when she saw it, to camp with this in our August heat.  It was amazing.  First of all, it's a great size - it fits a lot of food and it's easy to carry.  Emma is a hearty eater so I need something with a lot of space but she also needs to be able to lift it.  I sent her to camp with food that would spoil if it didn't stay cold and it stayed cold.  How do you know, Ellen?  Well, because it was so darn hot that my hearty eater wasn't hungry and came home with half of her lunch.  It was still as cold as I gave it to her in the morning which also meant I put it right back in the fridge and not the garbage.  Yeah, good for the Earth (less waste) and great for my wallet.

As most of you know (because I write about it ALL the time), I strive each day to live a greener life.  PackIt is a plus for mom/dad, but it is also earth friendly.  It has a patented eco-gel liner, eliminating the need for ice or gel packs completely, PVC/lead free, non-toxic, earth safe and reusable.  This means it's safe for your kids which is the most important factor.  I love it, Emma loves it but Chloe loves it too so looks like I'm getting another one.  They also come in many colors/patterns so your kids can look stylish (I have girls - this stuff is important to them).  I highly recommend packing lunch/snack this year in a PackIt.
