Our Local Beaches Are Open! What You Need to Know.

Some of Long Island's most beautiful South Shore beaches are located in the Town of Hempstead. Ocean beaches at Point Lookout, Lido, and Lido West are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

In addition to its four beaches along the Atlantic shoreline, the town also operates a bay beach at Hewlett Point Park in Bay Park and a small beachfront along Hog Island Channel in the community of Harbor Isle.

Season Beach Parking Pass Town of Hempstead

2022 Season Beach Parking Pass for Point Lookout, Lido, and Lido West is available for purchase on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Point Lookout Administration Office.

Prices

  • $125 for residents
  • $75 for seniors (60 plus), handicapped, auxiliary police, volunteer firefighters, veterans, active military.

Beach entrance fees may be paid by cash or credit/debit card. For credit/debit card payments, an additional $1.50 processing fee will be added to the admission price. The Town of Hempstead does not receive any portion of the processing fee, which is charged by the credit card processing company.

Beaches are open to Hempstead Town and Nassau County residents only.

Seasonal Beach Information

  • Ocean beaches are open daily beginning Saturday, May 28, 2022, through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022.
    • Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week from Saturday, May 28, 2022, through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022, from 10 am to 6 pm.
    • Parking fees are collected seven days a week, from 7 am to 5 pm.
    • Special Park District beaches are open Saturday, June 18, 2022, through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2022.

Daily Resident Beach Parking Fee

The daily beach parking fee at Town of Hempstead-operated beaches is $10 per car for Town of Hempstead residents. For non-residents, the daily beach parking fee is $50.  Non-resident "walk-in" rates apply at Lido and Lido West beaches. For beach admission, a valid, current NYS DMV driver's license or NYS DMV ID card is required to prove residency in the town.

Opened seasonally with a parking permit, this beach offers visitors a pool.

NICKERSON BEACH

Beach Half-mile on ocean. 

Lifeguards June 20 to Labor Day. 

Amenities Cabanas (fee), 2 pools (fee), tennis courts, soccer fields (fee), basketball court, playgrounds, handball and paddleball, snack bars, restrooms, 74 campsites for RVs (fee), picnic area (fee, reservation), surf casting (fee, permit required), skate park, recreation program. Plus a small dog park. Nesting areas for the Piping Plover.

Swimming: Pool opens on June 18, 2022, Nassau Residents only
One swimming pool at west end, one swimming pool at east end, along with small “kiddie” pools (fee required).

Pool hours: Monday-Friday: 10am-6pm; Saturday and Sunday: 11am-7pm.

Visitors can also swim in the ocean daily from 9am to 6pm, when lifeguards are on duty.  Beach showers are located near the campground.

During the summer season (Memorial Day - Labor Day), parking fees are charged as follows:

Fee Parking $15 a day with Leisure Pass,  Memorial Day - Labor Day; $37 without Leisure pass.

Season sticker: Leisure Pass holders, $110; Seniors, Disabled, volunteer Firefighters, Auxiliary Police & Veterans: $50 (Leisure Pass required)



JONES BEACH STATE PARK

Beach 6 1/2 miles on ocean; part of a 2,413-acre park, 2-mile boardwalk

Amenities Multi-use bike path that stretches west from Cedar Creek Park in Wantagh to Field 1 to the West End 2 parking lot, and stretches eastern to Tobay Beach, bathhouse, splash pad water park, beach shops, refreshment stands, the Gatsby on the Ocean restaurant, boardwalk cafe, recreation areas. 

Lifeguards May 28 - Sept. 12. 

Fee $10 a car daily May 28 - Sept. 12, 6 am - 6 pm, Sat and Sun 6 am -4pm; $8 weekends and holidays May 23 - May 27 and Sept. 13 - Nov. 7.  Entrance is free after hours as well as before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Non-resident entrance fees are $10 after 4 p.m. weekdays.

Open: 6/25-9/5: 10 am-6 pm, M-F. 9 am-8 pm Sat, Sun, & Holidays.



ROBERT MOSES STATE PARK

Beach 5 miles on ocean. 

Lifeguards May 29 - Sept. 12, 9 am - 5pm. 

Amenities Beach shop, bathhouses, fishing (night fishing April 1 - Dec. 31, by permit), sand wheelchairs, specially equipped playground (Field 5), body-boarding areas, surfing areas (unprotected), first-aid stations. 

Fee $10 a car daily May 29 - Sept. 12; $8 a car weekends and holidays May 23 and Sept. 18 - Nov. 7. 

Open 8 am -7 pm daily



ROCKAWAY BEACHES

Beach Beach 3 St. to Beach 153 St. and Boardwalk to Atlantic Ocean. NYC Parks maintains 14 miles of beaches.

Beach hours: Beaches are open from Memorial Day weekend through September 12, 2021. During beach season, lifeguards are on duty daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

Amenities

Surf Beach: Yes
Surf beaches are located between Beach 68 - Beach 71 Street, Beach 87 - Beach 91 Street, and Beach 110 - Beach 111 Street.

Kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding areas are at Beach 32 Street and at Beach 57 Street.
Bicycle and Skate Path: Yes (Bicycle path along the boardwalk)

Concession Stand: Yes (B.17th Street, B.86th Street Island, B.97th Street Island, and B.106th Street Island.)
Mobile Charging Station: Yes (B. 108th St, B. 97th St, B. 84th St.)
