Happy, Happy Earth Day!!!!

Celebrate the Planet Every Day

By Ellen DeFrancesco, Publishing Mom of This Newsletter April 23, 2014

We cover the following towns: Long Beach, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Island Park, Lido Beach, Lynbrook, East Rockaway, Baldwin and Freeport.

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and vacation time with the kids.  This school year seems to be flying by, before we know it, it will be goodbye school, hello camp.

I know Earth Day already passed but this is one of my favorite holidays.  Every day for me is Earth Day and since there are Earth Day celebrations this weekend I thought I would keep the love for our planet going in this week's newsletter.

I'm very lucky to have a husband who has accepted me through my ever changing habits.  When we met I was a meat eating, non-organic, not sure what was in my food or cosmetics and frankly didn't care type of person.  It's not that I didn't care about the Earth, it's just that I never thought about it, and when I did the thought lasted about 2 seconds.  Now it's all changed and my dear hubby comes home to a dinner of what he calls "side dishes".  What we would have eaten as a side dish is now the meal.  He's greeted by a wife who replaced his toxic brand of shampoo with a healthier choice and yells whenever someone throws out garbage, "Hey, that could be composted."  I wasn't always like this.  It started 10 years ago with the idea that my shampoo didn't have to kill or maim animals so I started buying cruelty free products.  Each year, I would make small changes.  Things I would do to use less toxins (make my own cleaning supplies), save money (shut off lights and unplug appliances), create less waste (buy kitchen towels instead of using roll after roll of paper towels) and since it was gradual it was easy to do.  The point of my story is that if I could make green changes (and I HATE change) then anyone can.  I hope you celebrate Earth Day this weekend and find one change you can make to help our planet.
